# Background

[Sonic](https://sonic.game/) is the first atomic SVM chain built to enable sovereign game economies on Solana. Sonic enables sovereign game economies that rollup and settle on [Solana](https://solana.com/).

Sonic stands out with its focus on atomic interoperability and gaming applications. The key differentiator is [HyperGrid](https://docs.sonic.game/developers/hypergrid-framework), a scaling framework that implements a shared state network, orchestrates an interoperability interface, and serves as the consensus layer for the Grids it operates. HyperGrid is designed to inform an opinionated pattern for deploying scalable and configurable SVM rollups we call Grids.

Sonic is the first instance of a Grid orchestrated by this framework.

Under the HyperGrid framework, we further introduce HyperFuse Guardian Nodes to operate as the verifier mechanism when HSSN posts the updated state onto Solana.

**HyperFuse Guardian Nodes** are designed to be light-weight, and run with very low computational resources. This document outlines the functionality, operation, and rewards system of the HyperFuse Guardian Nodes within the HSSN ecosystem.


# What is a HyperFuse Guardian Node?

A HyperFuse Guardian Node within Sonic’s HyperGrid Framework is designed to detect and alert the network of any discrepancies in transactions or state transitions. These nodes act as a safeguard, ensuring all operations within the Grids rollup adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.


# How do HyperFuse Guardian Nodes Work?

Here is an example process for where HyperFuse plays the part in Sonic and HyperGrid ecosystem:

1. Transactions are ingested and executed by the Grid(Sonic SVM).
2. Compression – All state transitions are optimistically rolled up and Merkle compressed. Transactions are compressed and aggregated into a Merkle tree.
3. Proof Generation – A proof is generated by each grid instance for each slot. For each block, the corresponding root state hash is committed. A new root represents each block/slot.
4. Proof Commitment – Proofs are committed to the HSSN to avoid any state collisions. The HSSN serves as a validation layer for transactions processed by Grids. Light sampling with light fraud proofs is computed here, and the HSSN pushes all proofs to the verifier program on Solana for further validation.
5. HyperFuse observes and verifies HSSN state submission onto Solana. If an incorrect submission is proposed, it raises an alarm (by whatever means its operator chooses) so that others can intervene.

# Who Can Operate a HyperFuse Guardian Node?

The HyperFuse Guardian Nodes are designed for adoption - **they can be run on community members’ laptops, desktops, mobiles or even on cloud instances.**

Anyone with a HyperFuse Guardian Node NFT and the required devices can operate a HyperFuse Guardian Node.

As for device requirements, the configuration needed is very minimal. Simply put, if your device can run a Chrome browser, it can run a node. Specifically, you'll need 8GB of RAM, a 1-core CPU, and at least 1GB of available disk space.


# What is the HyperFuse Guardian Node NFT?

**The HyperFuse Guardian Node NFT is a non-transferable NFT on Solana required to activate and operate the HyperFuse Guardian Node.**

# Run & Delegate HyperFuse Guardian Nodes

Once you own a HyperFuse Guardian Node NFT(if not, click [here](https://node.sonic.game/) to purchase), there are two ways to participate in network operations: **you can either** [**run nodes yourself**](/node-operation/run-and-delegate-hyperfuse-guardian-nodes/run-nodes) **or** [**delegate your NFT to other running nodes**](/node-operation/run-and-delegate-hyperfuse-guardian-nodes/delegate-node-nfts). Both methods are very simple.

To enhance the utilization of HyperFuse Guardian Node NFTs, we have introduced a delegation feature, allowing HyperFuse Guardian Node NFT holders to contribute more effectively to the network. As a reward, Node operators can set a commission rate to earn rewards for operating the NFT, while delegated NFT holders can earn rewards without directly participating in node operation, minus the commission fee.

**Commission Rate**: The commission rate is the percentage of rewards you can earn from the NFTs delegated to you. You can set a rate between 0%-20%.

# Token Distribution

The total supply of tokens is 2,400,000,000.

# Rewards for HyperFuse Guardian Node Participants

Participants in the HyperFuse Guardian Node can earn two types of rewards: one for network operation and another for network expansion. These incentives aim to encourage more node participants and ensure a more robust transaction verification process.\
\
The total reward is 10% of the token allocation: 9% for participants involved in node operation, and 1% for participants involved in referrals.


# Node Operation Rewards

A total of 9% of the token allocation is dedicated to users operating nodes. To ensure the sustainability of network operations and a balanced distribution of value, a halving mechanism is designed to occur every year.\
\
Based on this mechanism, the rewards for running nodes in the first year amount to 108,000,000, which is approximately 9,000,000 per month.

#### Rewards Form & Settlement Time

Participants operating a node will receive rewards in the form of $veSonic. Node Rewards are distributed daily, with settlement occurring at 00:00 UTC. Users can log in to the Node Dashboard to check their rewards. To withdraw $veSonic to the blockchain, users need to claim it and ensure their Solana address has enough gas.

#### Details on Node Operation Rewards Distribution

1. **Proof of Work Basis:** Node rewards are calculated based on proof of work. When a Node NFT successfully completes a validation and is verified, it earns a corresponding amount of proof of work. (The amount depends on whether the Node is delegated to another Node Validators(addresses) or self-delegated.)
2. **Validation Process:** Validation occurs every 1-2 minutes. Each round of validation will involve the system randomly selecting a portion of Node NFTs to participate in the validation process. The Node Validators (addresses) to which these Node NFTs are delegated will then submit the validation results.
3. **Reward Distribution:** After submitting validation results, the system rewards the Node Validators(addresses) with `y*100` proof of work, where `y` is the number of Node NFTs delegated to that Node Validators(addresses) and selected for validation in that round. A percentage `x%` (which is set by the Node Validators(addresses) owner) of the reward is allocated as a commission fee to the Node Validators(addresses). The remaining `y*100*(1-x%)` is evenly distributed among the Node NFTs that participated in the validation.
4. **Daily Rewards Calculation:** By 00:00 UTC the following day, the system aggregates the proof of work from all Node NFTs and distributes the daily Node rewards based on their accumulated work, weighted accordingly.

**Important Note**: Ensure the stability of your Node Validators (addresses) network to increase the chances of your Node NFTs being selected for each round of validation. If the Node Validators (addresses) are inactive, the delegated Node NFTs will also be unable to participate in validation.


# Node Referral Rewards

For those involved in the referral program, a 10% direct reward will be given for each successful invitation of a new user to purchase an NFT. (It will be executed immediately through the smart contract.)

Additionally, 1% of the token allocation(in the form of $veToken) is designated for further expanding the number of HyperFuse Guardian Node participants, with a vesting period of 2 years. **Rewards vary depending on the tier of the invited participants.** And the increase is non-linear, with the rate of increase becoming progressively larger.

**Each day, a fixed amount of $veToken will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until the supply is exhausted.**

Only users who are at least 18 years old and sucessefully passed KYC can claim HyperFuse Guardian Node rewards. Users from the US and OFAC/UN-sanctioned countries are not eligible to participate. This includes users from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.


# How to convert $veToken to $Token

$veToken is a non-transferable token.

* **$veToken can be converted to $Token at a 1:1 ratio.**
* **$veToken** requiring users to wait **【180】** days if they wish to convert 100% of their $veToken back into $token
* If to shorten the redemption period, the rules are as follows:

Ensure the stability of your Node Validators (addresses) network to increase the chances of your Node NFTs being selected for each round of validation. If the Node Validators (addresses) are inactive, the delegated Node NFTs will also be unable to participate in validation.
